Florence is basically my favorite artist of all time (besides Bon Iver... obviously).
I spent months writing on her Facebook wall writing "COME TO SALT LAKE!!!!" and it would always get deleted and she would never come. She did go to Denver however this summer, but since I was in Africa I wasn't able to go.
Not long after I got back from Africa my sister and I decided to just splurge and buy the tickets in San Francisco! We had no plan of where we were staying or how we were getting there... but we just had to do it!
It felt like it YEARS waiting for the day to come, and when it did it was the happiest day of my life. Melissa and I spent the next 13 hours driving to SanFran, listening to Florence & books on tape, and eating treats all along the way.
We stayed with my aunt Yvonne who was so nice to let us stay for free. She not only let us stay with her, but took us to eat in China Town (real full on Chinese food I haven't seen since I was in China) and to a Vietnamese place the next day. It was so tastey and we got so cultured!
On Friday we day after China Town we spent some time at the Ghirardeli Chocolate Factory and on the Golden Gate Bridge. There was an AirShow going on with a bunch of jets which was so awesome to see!
On Friday night we went to the concert! We immediately went into line and bought our Florence merchandise. It was at this outside amphitheater that was pretty huge and nice. The Weeknd opened which I referred to as "slow jams, baby making music" which was actually way good! (they sounded better live then they do on my ipod but whatever, still some good tunes). We made friends with everyone around us to let them know that we were so obsessed and let them know that tears were definitely going to be shed at this concert.
When Florence came out it was honestly the best moment of my life! (The girl next to me asked me if I was going to pass out) She opened with Only If For a Night-- one of my personal favorites! Her third song she sang Cosmic Love and I literally cried from happiness and pure beauty. Gosh... I am just so freaking obsessed with her. The concert was soooooo good! She was dressed up in such a cute yet creepy velvety dress and had her hair like a little pilgrim with braids with such a cute little British accent! She encored with Drumming and The Dog Days Are Over! The Dog Days was SO good but when she left the stage without singing my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG "NEVER LET ME GO" I literally cried. I yelled "Why is everyone okay with leaving right now? She didn't sing 'never let me go'! No one here is a true fan" and everyone basically thought we were psycho. Melissa marched right up to the stage and told a worker that we had to speak to Florence. He laughed in our face and was like "uh.. there is no way" and I was like "She is expecting us!" "Good try-- get outta here". It was pretty messed up if you ask me but worth a shot. Even though I am still depressed she didn't sing my favorite song of all time I am so happy that I got to see her and I already miss her so much!
The rest of our trip was so fun! We did the tourist thing and went to Fisherman's Warf-- except it was Fleet Week for the US Navy and it was SO CROWDED! We did get to go to the old Arcade and play some games and see the sea lions though. I also got pictures with my favorite huge whale signs for the aquarium. Besides the concert, that was the best part of the trip. That night we went to Haight Street (because Florence said she went there and we wanted to see her again so bad) and toured around. They had so many cute and awesome little boutiques where we went to "Decades of Fashion" and ate some crepes at a fancy little shop. The first store we went into they were playing "The Dog Days" and we asked the store owner if Florence had come in there the night before. She said yes! We were so happy but so sad we didn't see her-- so we just touched everything in the whole store because she probably touched it too (Yes we are creepily obsessed fans... but it was awesome).
but like I always say... "Regrets collect like old friends, here to relive our darkest moments"
-- Florence Welch
Yep! That pretty much sums it up! haha Except I noticed that you wrote that she's your all time favorite artist (besides Bon Iver). I didn't see any mention of Sarah, which is pretty messed up. I still need to write to her. Also, you wrote, "shrub aka sister" when you should have wrote "shrub aka sista!"
ReplyDeleteRemember how you almost bought a Weeknd tshirt? Remember us stretching at that gas station? Remember that guy who passed out on the temple lawn and couldn't believe we pay tithing? Remember that creepy guy on Haight Street and that girl who wanted to buy chips and salsa at the crepe place??? I miss our trip already! Time for another one. Next time we need to go see Krista!
